Faces and moods of people inspire me to capture their emotions on canvas. I’m on a journey to unveil these images of people and nature and express them in my work.
I was born in Kolkata, India, the city with a soul of art and culture, and spent a lot of time in my childhood with family and friends in Kashmir, India, at my ancestral home. My early passion for art, design, color and nature began to reemerge as I found myself sketching to capture the passion in faces and expressions of people. One of my early pencil sketches was of my grandmother, capturing her serene personality and love for peaceful living. In my early adulthood, I was captivated by a painting by my talented grandfather which was full of life and rich colors. I also found a creative outlet through colorful batik dyeing by creating shapes and designs and bringing life to fabric.
After my early adulthood in India, I moved to the United States for graduate studies. After graduating with an MBA degree, I worked for a number of years in Risk Management, but my passion for art, design, color and nature couldn’t remain dormant. I found myself drawn to pursue my real passion and give an outlet to my creativity by painting. I have been a student of the renowned French artist David Gista, whose expert guidance has helped me explore new and innovative ways of thinking and expressing myself on canvas. I work primarily with oil, charcoal and acrylics.
I reside in the Chicago area with my husband and daughter. I enjoy traveling with my family and seek continued inspiration for my work as I see new faces and explore new places.
Painting inspires me to express my innermost feelings, explore new horizons and dream!
